Jack Fleming, B.A., LL.B., has practised residential tenancies law for over 40 years. He is the Executive Director of North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services. He is also the author of LexisNexis Canada’s annual Ontario Landlord and Tenant Practice, as well as Residential Tenancies in Ontario, 4th Edition (LexisNexis Canada, 2022), the foremost treatise on landlord and tenant law in Ontario, which has been cited in many tribunal and court decisions.

James D. M. Fraser, B.Sc. (Eng), LL.B., has over 45 years of experience in commercial leasing. Mr. Fraser's expertise includes all aspects of commercial leasing, including the offer to lease, negotiation of the lease, enforcement, and surrender of the lease. Mr. Fraser is also an accredited roster mediator for Ontario's Mandatory Mediation Program in Toronto. He has written on the topic of tenant's rights and remedies in a commercial lease, among other publications. He is the co-author of LexisNexis Canada's Canadian Forms & Precedents – Commercial Transactions – Commercial Tenancies, 2nd Edition.

Ruth Sullivan, LL.B., B.C.L., earned a master’s degree in English from Concordia University, degrees in common law and civil law from McGill University and a master’s degree in legislation from the University of Ottawa. She clerked for the Right Honourable Chief Justice Bora Laskin at the Supreme Court of Canada in 1982 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1984. After 27 years of teaching in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, she retired in 2011. She continued to work in the Legislative Services Branch of the federal Department of Justice, where over the years – on secondments, sabbaticals and then as a full-time employee – she drafted bills and regulations and provided training and legal opinions.

The Honourable Mr. Justice Graeme Mew, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B. holds law degrees from Kingston University in England and from the University of Windsor. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1982, to the Bar of Ontario in 1987 and to the Bar of British Columbia in 2010. Prior to his appointment as a judge of the Superior Court of Justice (Ontario) in December 2013, he was a senior equity partner at Clyde & Co LLP in Toronto and a member of chambers at Four New Square in Lincoln’s Inn, London. Many of his extra-curricular activities have a sporting connection. He served as an appeals officer at four successive Rugby World Cups and was a member of the ad hoc panels of the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010 and the London Olympic Games in 2012. He is a Bencher of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and a Sessional Instructor in law at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Daniel Zacks, B.A., LL.B., holds a law degree from the University of New Brunswick. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2009. He is the principal of Zacks Law where he litigates lawyers’ professional negligence, commercial, and insurance coverage disputes. He writes and speaks extensively on limitations issues.

Donald J. Bourgeois, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., is one of Canada’s leading authorities on charities and not-for-profit organizations. He is the recipient of several awards, including the AMS/John Hodgson Award by the Ontario Bar Association in recognition of his leadership, development of the law, and service in the charitable arena, the Amethyst Award for Outstanding Achievement by Ontario Public Servants, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedication to his community and work to engage and inspire its residents, and the Mayor of Kitchener’s City Builder Award.

Mr. Bourgeois was General Counsel at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and has a private practice that focuses on liquor, gaming and other regulated industries in Canada. He is an adjunct professor at York University, having taught gambling law and financial accountability in government and the charitable and not-for-profit sectors. He has also written extensively on the topic of charity and not-for-profit law, including several editions of The Law of Charitable and Not-for-Profit Organizations, Charities and Not-for-Profit Fundraising Handbook, Charities and Not-for-Profit Administration and Governance Handbook and the liquor control title for Halsbury’s Laws of Canada. He is also the author of Public Law in Canada and lead author for Election Law in Canada. He has also served as an officer and director of several key community and arts organizations, and as chair and member of various municipal and provincial government organizations and advisory bodies.

Wendy Litner, H.B.A., LL.B., is a legal researcher and writer. She clerked for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket, and worked for several years as an Associate in the Labour, Employment and Education Law Group at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. She has served as a contributing editor for numerous other Halsbury’s Laws of Canada titles, including Access to Information and Privacy, Betting, Gaming and Lotteries, Condominiums, Consumer Protection, Landlord and Tenant, Legislation and Municipal. She also co-authored the Ontario Litigator’s Guide to Human Rights, which is in its second edition.
