Darren J. Reed

Darren J. Reed, (Hon.) LL.B., is a Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, receiving his appointment on October 23, 2023. Immediately prior to his appointment, he was a Partner in the litigation and dispute resolution group at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Calgary. He practiced solely in civil litigation primarily in Alberta since 2005. He also was a sessional lecturer at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, teaching Law 505: Civil Procedure from 2012 to 2019. Since 2011, he has been a regular guest instructor for the Faculty’s advocacy course. Prior to his appointment he assisted the Legal Education Society of Alberta on a regular basis for over 15 years, administering what was the CPLED bar admission course, instructing on motions practice, negotiations, and civil procedure.

Prior to his appointment, his practice focused on construction and product liability, cybersecurity, securities and class action litigation and dispute resolution. In addition to regularly appearing before the Alberta courts, Darren appeared as counsel in the British Columbia Supreme Court and the Federal Court of Canada, as well as the Alberta Securities Commission. Arbitration and mediations were focal points of his dispute practice. Darren was ranked as a leading lawyer in litigation in Alberta by Chambers & Partners, Lexpert, The Legal 500, Benchmark, and Best Lawyers.

Glen H. Poelman

Glen H. Poelman, B.A. (Hon.), LL.B., is a justice of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, receiving his appointment on August 6, 2010. Prior to his appointment, he conducted a general civil litigation and arbitration practice at Macleod Dixon, now part of Norton Rose Fulbright. He also contributed to a number of the firm’s committees (including chairing the Conflicts Committee, chairing the Partnership Review Committee, and serving on the Executive Committee). He chaired the firm’s Litigation Department for seven years prior to his appointment. He has written, taught and spoken on civil procedure throughout his career.
