Détails des produits
The independent medical examination, or IME, can make or break a case. Whether requested by a personal injury lawyer, insurance company, or workers' compensation board, an IME must be properly conducted and written in order to be effective.
This comprehensive handbook explains the purpose of each element in the IME process and how to use it to reach a solid, even-handed conclusion. The revised edition addresses key issues for lawyers and insurance professionals, while providing an overview on the mechanics of physical examinations.
New authors Dr. Michel Lacerte and Dr. Pierre Forcier, are both eminently qualified to author this publication. Each have over 20 years experience in providing independent medical evaluations and are recognized medico-legal experts in Ontario and Quebec. Together they provide authoritative advice on:
- Conducting a thorough IME
- Choosing an appropriate medical evaluator
- Drawing well-supported conclusions from the IME data set
- What to include in a report, plus documents that should be appended
- How evidence should be given in court
This edition focuses on evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the IME process and report. Brand-new features include a chapter on bias and three appendices. You'll learn how to:
- Write better letters of instruction
- Critically review the medical evidence in all components of a report
- Identify fallacious arguments and misuse of scientific and medical literature
- Recognize and counteract evaluator and information biases
- Prepare for cross-examination
Special Features
- Checklists for IME evaluation and letter of instruction
- Medico-Legal Report 2002 published by the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto
