Maurice Coombs, B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M. & Bruce MacDougall, B.A. (Hons.), B.C.L. and M.A., LL.B.

Maurice Coombs, B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M., is a former partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and was a Senior Member of the Firm’s Research Group, until his retirement at the end of December 2004. Until January of 1998, he was Chair of the firm’s Research Group, a post he held for more than 15 years. His research practice at Osler was concentrated in corporate and commercial law, trust law, partnerships, conflicts of laws and similar matters. He has lectured at and written papers for legal and professional programs held by a variety of organizations. He also wrote the Agency, Bills of Exchange, and Partnerships titles for Halsbury’s Laws of Canada.

Bruce MacDougall, B.A. (Hons.), B.C.L. and M.A., LL.B., is Professor of Law at the University of British Columbia. He has close to 20 years’ experience teaching courses in contract and commercial law in both the common law jurisdictions of Canada and in Quebec. He has also taught these courses in the United States and England. A Rhodes Scholar and former lawyer in Ontario and British Columbia, he is actively involved in continuing legal education programs and recently won the teaching excellence award at UBC. He has also participated in law reform projects on commercial law in British Columbia. His other publications include Estoppel (a treatise published by LexisNexis Canada), and the Personal Property and Secured Transactions title for Halsbury’s Laws of Canada.
