    The Late Honourable Mr. Justice John Sopinka & Mark A. Gelowitz


    Hon. John Sopinka, Late Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. John Sopinka was Canada’s most prominent and skilled litigator when he was appointed directly from the bar to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1988. He served on the Court for nine years, until his untimely passing in 1997. Justice Sopinka left an important legal legacy in his judgments on the court, and his books The Trial of an Action and The Law of Evidence in Canada.

    Mark A Gelowitz is a Partner in the Litigation Department of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, Chair of the firm’s National Corporate Governance and Securities Litigation Group and Co-Chair of the International Commercial Arbitration Group. He has a business-focused civil litigation, appellate litigation and international commercial arbitration practice.
