Jack Fleming, B.A., LL.B., has practised residential tenancies law for over 25 years. He is the Executive Director of North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services, and is a former Adjunct Professor at Queen’s University Law School. He is also the author of Butterworths’ Ontario Landlord and Tenant Practice, 2012 Edition, as well as Residential Tenancies in Ontario, 2nd Edition (Butterworths, 2010), the foremost treatise on landlord and tenant law in Ontario, which has been cited in many tribunal and court decisions, including the Ontario Court of Appeal.
James D. M. Fraser, B.Sc. (Eng), LL.B., is a Partner with McLean Kerr LLP in Toronto. With over 30 years of experience in commercial leasing, Mr. Fraser’s expertise includes all aspects of commercial leasing, including the offer to lease, negotiation of the lease, enforcement, and surrender of the lease. He has written on the topic of tenant’s rights and remedies in a commercial lease, among other publications. He is a frequent contributor to the Shopping Centre Newsletter, and the co-author of LexisNexis Canada’s Canadian Forms & Precedents – Commercial Transactions – Commercial Tenancies, 2nd Edition.
Ruth Sullivan, B.A., M.A., B.C.L., LL.B., M.Leg., was a lecturer in English literature and composition at Concordia University before studying law. From 1984 until her retirement in 2011, she was a Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa and a former Director of the Legislative Drafting Program. She is the author of Sullivan on the Construction of Statutes, the leading treatise on statutory interpretation in Canada. Her work in statutory interpretation draws on her long-standing interest in linguistics, as well as her considerable experience as a legislative drafter with the federal Department of Justice.
Graeme Mew, B.A., LL.B., is a lawyer and a dispute resolution professional. He is a partner in the Toronto office of Clyde & Co Canada LLP, and a member of the Chambers of Sue Carr QC at Four New Square in London, England. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is accredited as a mediator by the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR). He has litigated, arbitrated or mediated a wide variety of civil disputes involving insurance law, contract and tort law, professional liability, commercial transactions, financial services, international and cross-border issues, sports law and liability of directors and officers. He is the author of The Law of Limitations, 2nd Edition, published by LexisNexis Canada.
Wendy Litner, H.B.A., LL.B., is a legal researcher and writer. She clerked for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket, and worked for several years as an Associate in the Labour, Employment and Education Law Group at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.
